Product Description

Being tenacious means one holds fast. One is persistent and cohesive. It means being tough and tireless until achieving your goal: all knife-worthy definitions for a worthy knife. The mid-sized Tenacious has a blue G-10 laminate handle, milled with prolonged fatigue-free cutting in mind. Tucked inside are skeletonized steel liners increasing the handle's rigidity and strength without adding non-functioning weight or bulky thickness.

The 8Cr13Mov stainless blade is leaf-shaped and ground flat from spine to cutting edge for cutting performance. The blade's shape coupled with an oversized Spyderco Round Hole and textured spine jimping allow you to open the blade and position your thumb on the spine in slip-proof confidence ready for work. A Walker Linerlock (with jimped liner) and a 4-way pocket clip lets you set your carry and draw preference: Tip-up/tip-down left-hand/right-hand. Screw together construction.

Spyderco is QUALITY.
5 Stars
Spyderco is QUALITY.
This review is being written by a maintenance man that abuses tools, daily. The Spyderco Tenacious is as high quality of a folding knife as you will find for under $100. It holds an edge, the construction of the knife is top notch and the pocket clip does a good job of holding it in place. I particularly like that theyve placed a hole in the rear of the blade as opposed to a stud for easy opening. When using the knife I tend to have grease on my hands. I can place my fingers on the hole in the blade and open the knife easily and safely. The only downside i can think if is that the knife could possibly sit a little deeper in the pocket bit thays really just nit picking. Also, I cleaned the knife for the pic. OCD...

Purchased this knife after purchasing 2 all black and 4 standard finished Tenacious knives ( 5 of the 7 are now owned by friends, as they were in need of good quality knives for EDC ) and was impressed with the fit, finish and sharpness of this Chinese made item. The blade, made of 8Cr13Mov, though not of Spyderco's premier VG-10, is nonetheless razor sharp and retains this edge through constant use and sharpens ( with a ceramic sharpener ) easily enough back to factory sharpness, or even better with the proper tools and experience. Being fully flat ground, the blade's profile helps make quick work of most materials it comes into contact with, cutting with a virtually amazing degree of authority, ease, and speed. The pocket clip attachs right, left, tip up or tip down, and opens with either left or right hand, but be aware a left-handed user needs the assistance of the right hand or runs the risk of slicing the heck out of a finger if trying to close left-handed, as the linerlock is very right-handed. A small detail, but it does need to be mentioned if one is a complete " southpaw ". The opening and closing of the blade is as smooth as slik on silk - typical Spyderco - and the lockup is both positive and tight, culminating with an audible ' click '. The G-10 handle scales are a medium blue ( a slightly darker royal blue , very pleasing to the eye ), rough textured enough to allow a positive grip but not too rough to impede quickly replacing into a front or rear pants pocket. Note that it blends in well with the colour of slightly faded denim blue jeans, all but disappearing save for the pocket clip. A rear lined lanyard hole is standard and can accomodate a 550 paracord lanyard, if one desires, to dispense with the pocket clip for an even more discrete carry. The patented Spyderco hole in the blade is slightly enlarged, to accomodate bare and gloved hands. Furthermore, there is jimping at the rear of the blade's spine to secure the thumb for a tighter grip in an intricate and/or hard cutting situation. The final touch is the Spyderco trademarked bug on both the blade, just forward of the thumphole, and also on the upper half of the pocketclip, all discretely done but reassuringly visible.
With all the preceeding, the biggest news, however, is the overall quality. For a knife at this price point, the sheer quality is impressive, and actually borders on the unbelievable. The predecessor of this second generation of Chinese Spyderco knives was the byrd line, made under contract by Spyderco - wearing neither their name nor logo - and having neither the fit, finish, nor the sharpness of this generation. With this generation, the price/quality barrier has been broken, but more importantly, China is showing the world what she is now capable of, and it looks impressive, to say the least. ( Remember the first automobiles Japan introduced to America in the late 1960's? Most of America laughed at them, but look at them now - they are amoung the best made, finished, and most reliable in the world. Decades later, China is poised to take over a leading position in the world's economy, as witnessed by both her great internal strides and the items she is producing for export, as the hardest things are in the details. She is taking great pains to finish those details completely, and seems to be doing a spectacular job. Those of you who are unwilling to accept progress and technology, be prepared to be run over by it, as stagnation leads to decay and failure ) However, as not to digress too far and lose the point, this new generation of Chinese manufacturerd Spydercos are showing spectactuar quality, and may soon compete with or even replace Japan's present line of knives with the same renowned name and reputation. Those of you who think this is premature or impossible, simply study history- learn from the past or be compelled to repeat it.
Presently, enjoy the value this knife and the second generation of Chinese made Spydercos in general represent, as their price/quality index may be short lived and a thing of the past - a historic relic, only to be remembered by people of a bygone age and era. This knife easily rates and deserves a ' 10 ', or 5 solid stars, IMHO.

I was hesitant to try a Chinese Spyderco (after I wasn't overly impressed with the early Byrd line), but I can't believe how wonderful this knife is, extremely impressed. Some bullet points:
-Fairly lightweight (comfortable for EDC)
-G10 is perfect
-Clip is spydie classic, reliable and move-able to all 4 points
-Jimping is perfect (usable, but not irritating)
-Shape feels great in the hand
-Flat ground, razor sharp (paper taste, arm test, both passed)
-Virtually zero blade play, not an exaggeration, zero.
-Tolerances are PERFECT
-Basically a kick@ss version of the Delica 4 with cheaper metal
-Nutnfancy video review approved

DEPLOYMENT - THE BLADE DEPLOYS VERY FAST WITH A THUMB FLIP, MY BUDDY AND I AGREE, DEPLOYMENT IS A PERFECT TEN! AMAZING CLICK, PERFECT LOCKUP! Deploys so well, you'd think it was spring assisted or auto, it's not, just beautiful work!

The bad - which isn't really even bad:
-Not VG-10, but 8Cr13MoV is still above average stainless, it will rust if mistreated, but as a respected EDC, I don't anticipate any issues.
-Blue G10 is slightly darker in person, but still great looking!

GET THIS KNIFE! Ladies: I'm a guy, your guy wants this knife!

This was my first purchase from Spyderco and from what I've heard about their knives, I expected a lot. I got the blue G10 version since it was limited edition. Thought I'd spend the extra $10. The knife overall is great. I love it! The ergonomics and overall look of the knife are amazing. I was really impressed.

But there were a few things that held it back from being a perfect 5 stars in my opinion. First of all is the price. I paid $43 for it. The original with black scales is $10 less. I really wouldn't have minded if the quality was a little better on the blue version.

Out of the box, there were a couple things that turned me off.. I was little disappointed. The blade looked really messy when I opened it. After I cleaned off all the oil, I noticed the blade had a blemish on it. There's an ugly spot on the blade that looks like it might have been scratched in the factory.. And another little one right next to it. The blade centering was also off.. I read about that in some reviews and hoped mine wouldn't have that problem. But it did.. These are more aesthetic problems than anything. But still enough to kill your first impression of your new blade.

Overall, I'm still happy with the blade. Cant wait to EDC it. Just a little disappointed.. I expected it to have better quality control especially after paying the extra $10.. And the fact that it is a Spyderco knife. I plan on putting this blade to use now. Not gonna baby it cause the blemishes kinda killed it for me. I'd still recommend though. I think I just had a little bad luck with mine.
