Good bag with one significant flaw

Good bag with one significant flaw
I bought this bag based on the reviews and the Smith & Wesson name. I use it for hauling around my Macbook Pro 13" laptop, as well as a folder and tablet, plus other computer-related odds and ends. It has a good amount of storage volume, as well as numerous snap points and so forth. The one downside seems to be the durability. Within a month of my purchase the seam at the top of the over-the-shoulder strap was beginning to give way. It's ripped out about an inch of the seam between the bag and the strap proper. Check the picture to see what I'm talking about. The seam appears to have stopped tearing, but it's not the kind of thing I expected to find on a bag with this brand. I still use it daily, but I don't load it down as much as I once did, and I expect I'll be replacing it at some point.

For just under 50 bones, this S&W Tactical pack is pretty sweet. I'll try to leave as straightford of a review as possible, breaking all of the storage down, but all in all this is a great buy and I would recommend it moving forward.

There are 3 separate storage compartments on this bag. There's a main storage pouch that could fit your larger items, big enough to hold a 13" portable device (can't confirm 15") Theres also a mesh pocket that you can zip open in this compartment and it has a larger pocket and a smaller pocket. Then there's two more open ended pockets covered by a nylon type material.

The front of the pack sports the two other pouches, a smaller one on top and slightly larger one on the bottom. The top pouch is very handy for tossing things like your wallet or keys (although there's lots of quality clips to hang your keys on to) basically any small item you may want to get to the most. The slightly larger pouch has a deep pocket that you can unzip and a front pocket also accessed by a zipper (the zippers seem to be very durable, mind you)

If you wanted to use this as an accessory pack at the range or conceal your firearm, this pack is more than capable of accommodating those needs. I will use it for that here and there, but ultimately it will be used for me to take to and from work. While it may be on the pricier side for a smaller one strap pack, the extra money is worth the quality of the materials. I will update this if necessary, otherwise there's no reason to give this anything less that 5 stars. HIghly recommended.

UPDATE: 5/16

First day of using the pack and I discovered an additional storage department that completely snuck by me. There's a zipper that goes down the side of the pack along the seam of the back pad and this opens to a 4th storage compartment. Its slim but spacious at the same time, if that even makes sense? Awesome find.

Pros:
Seems sturdy, very comfortable over the shoulder belt, reasonable size (holds clipboard and books); quiet bag; good price; has cross-over strap.
test case: Used it pick-up 4 bottles of wine and there was no problem fitting them in the bag and felt secure on traveling during a rush-hour commute (regular 18" backpack can carry 6 bottles w/o problem, but not a sling and harder to move around)
Cons:
Pockets could use some pen holders and more organization including an a extra loop for keys (has one, but I use one for keys the other for ID tag/lanyard via very small carabiner clips--for ez release/attachment)
Water bottle holder does not pull tight, so I don't trust it as a sling-bag when holding an external water bottle, but great for small umbrella, also the holder has no drain hole (e.g., rain).
Shoulder strap elongated (slipped loose) once (used for about a week).

I did not need this pack, but I thought it would be good for hiking with my kids, and the price seemed pretty good. I looked at several packs, but this had a good price and plenty of space. When I received it in the mail, I thought it might be a little heavy, but that was just the quality material and padding.

It is a good pack. It is strong with lots of storage, more than I will need. I like the straps that allow me to have easy access to things on the outside, but there is plenty of space on the inside with all the pockets. I have space for camera lenses, snacks, water, and first aid supplies, as well as other possible additions.

The pack is very comfortable too. It is bigger than I expected too. I am the pack mule on trips and usually have to carry a large cumbersome backpack, this pack, when organized will hold more and be much more comfortable to carry.

Uses I foresee:
Camping, Hiking, Beach, Photo shoots and Amusement parks(intimidation as well as usefulness)

This is a great pack, as long as you don't overload it. It can not take much weight, I tried to use it daily with about 11+ pounds of daily stuff, iPad, sketching supplies, .380 with a few extra clips, misc. supplies, etc. and it worked great for about 3 weeks. But I noticed I was using the shoulder strap to load it into my car every day, eventually it started to fray, then rip. Its about 1/2 way ripped now and I'm looking for some way to fix it so I can get further use out of it. Its a perfect size but I would keep the weight to a minimum if you want it to last. Also there is not much padding so if you have electronics make sure they have a case of their own, they will get bumped around inside.

Excellent pack. Good build quality and tons of pockets and pouches. I keep dozens of useful items in it and carry it everyday. It is tactical enough to not look like a man-purse but compact enough to not be as cumbersome as a full backpack.
My one critique is that the conceal pouch doesn't work so well as the firearm tends to make a big ole lump on your back. I keep mine in the very front pouch with the security buckle down and am happy with the setup.

Update 3-2015
I have been using this bag daily since I bought it in October and it is still going strong. I took off the strap that goes over the entire front of the bag and have attached a small MOLLE pouch to the side and can hold a crazy amount of stuff.

Update 3-2016
The bag is still holding up with not problems. My pastor borrowed it and took it on a trip to Israel. He like it so much that he ordered one of his own. I have been using it almost daily and have yet to be disappointed. Well worth your money.

I was pretty happy with the bag for awhile until it started falling apart. one of the strings attached to the zipper came off suddenly after several months. There's two parts of the sash, a thicker one going across your chest and another slimmer one to make the bag tighter fit. I guess too much taking and putting it all was enough for the slimmer part to rip off the bag. Its a cool looking bag I just wish it was of the same quality of there other well known products...
