Buck Knives is a 4th generation family-owned business located in Post Falls, Idaho.
Our founder, Hoyt Buck, was looking for a better way to temper steel so it would hold an edge longer. His unique approach produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. In 1964, Buck became an industry leader with the revolutionary Model 110 Folding Hunter. This drive for ingenuity & excellence is what has made Buck the successful knife maker it is today.

Why are Buck knives famous for holding their edge?
We choose the right steel for the job. Then we heat-treat or temper each blade with our patented process to meet the demands of the intended use of the knife. So, the knife you buy is sharper out-of-the-box, holds an edge longer, and is easier to re-sharpen.
Can I get my knife sharpened?
Buck provides a Spa Service - for only Buck branded knives - which restores the factory edge on your knife and gives it a basic polish for a fee of $6.95/knife.
-
Famous for Holding an Edge
Buck is a market leader in edge retention thanks to our steel selections and heat treat process pioneered by industry famous, Paul Bos.

The steel for the blade holds a great edge and seems as if it will sharpen well when the time comes. The blade stays closed, but opens easily. The lock holds the blade open and is relatively easy to press to close the knife.
All in all, it was a great value at this price (less than $25) and far exceeds any of the "Made in China" models for the same or similar price.
We chose this model due to its diminutive size since it was a first knife for our son, but after handling it, I may order one for myself, as well.
I purchased the 285 Bantam BLW which is the medium sized Bantam and have been everyday carrying it for the last year. This model with the 3 1/8" blade is about as big a knife I can keep in my pocket without it being intrusive. Additionally, the Bantam is incredibly light (see pros and cons) which makes this knife ideal for everyday carry.
Pros:
- 420HC Steel. I'm no metallurgist but this is a really solid all around knife steel. It holds it edge fairly well and is pretty easy to sharpen. Haven't seen any sign of corrosion whatsoever.
- Very little blade play. I haven't use the knife to cut anything too tough but so far I have been very satisfied by the lack of blade play. After using the knife for a year I can detect the slightest bit of wobble in the blade but overall the blade is very solid.
- Super light! While the blade itself is incredibly solid the handle is made from some thermoplastic which is very light. This is great for backpackers or anyone trying to save ounces.
- Value. This knife usually can be found on Amazon from $16-20. For <$20 you're getting a heck of a knife.
- Thumb studs on both sides. So righties or lefties can use the thumb stud with no problem.
Cons
- Cheap feeling handle. I know I listed this as a pro but some may construe it as a con. The plastic handle is light and feels very "cheap". Practically speaking I love that the knife is light but the light plasticky feeling will not impress knife aficionados.
- Riveted not screwed. Instead of using screws, the Bantam is held together by rivets which means you cannot tighten or loosen the rivets. Some people might see this as a plus however. My last knife was kept together by screws and the center screw which held the blade tight fell out. I don't have to worry about that with the Bantam.
- Difficult one handed operation. The Bantam uses the lockback mechanism to steady the blade when open. While steady, the lockback is much harder to one hand close than a liner lock. Additionally, my Bantam takes a ton of force to open one handed. If you're not use to lockback knives it might take a little time getting used to one handed operation.
- Pocket clip not removable. Don't like pocket clips? Want to reverse the clip to put it in your left pocket? Too bad! The clip is riveted in so its not going anywhere! Honestly though I don't care about the clip and this is only a negative for those who want to reverse the clip.
All in all this is one seriously good knife at this price. If you like to buy Made/Assembled in the USA products you can't go wrong with the Buck Bantam.
The thumb catch really doesn't operate smoothly like a benchmade.
The handle feels sketchy. the molding and fit is tight, but the material feels like unreinforced ABS, which may crack. So no heavy duty work.
The things I like? Honestly quite a lot, and that pushes it from two stars into four. Well, the fit and finish apart from the actual material of the handle is pretty great. nothing is loose, gritty, or scuffed/scratched, so some care was taken to make sure assembly was done right. The actual finish and color of the handles is good too (I bought orange for EMS) I like the shape of the blade, it'll do a stellar job of small tasks like opening boxes or cutting a piece of fruit. It's actually balanced perfectly at the finger chorl. And the blade is pretty exceptional.
The steel of the blade is stone washed, so the finish is lovely and durable (stonewashing really hides abuse well since it's already scratched!) and it was pretty exceptionally sharp out of the box. Not as razor sharp as I will make it, but as a sharpening snob, it absolutely will do a great job right as it comes from the factory. the bevels are near-spot on, I'd wager about a 40 degree inclusive edge, and it will pop quite a few hairs on your arm (though not quite shaving sharp)
I went at some cardboard boxes for a while with it, just hacking them to bits, and was pleasantly surprised. This is a decent steel.
Overall, if I can get past the fact that it's not an actual assist opener, it's a good glovebox or small utility knife. The only thing that lets it down is that the handle really needs to be more heavily fiberglass reinforced (if it's reinforced at all) because any heavy use will likely snap it.
Would I recommend it as an everyday pocket knife to someone? no. For less money, you can have either a stainless or carbon steel opinel number 8, a ridiculously high quality blade with a dead reliable collar lock and a great solid chunk of wood for a handle. If you want something closer in size to the buck, go for a number 6 or 7, but the number 8 is great for all hand sizes. This knife is fine for light duty, but I can baton with an opinel, and they've been making that knife for nearly 150 years, not to mention it gets comments every time you use it (much more gentlemanly than some camo colored folder)

Loque no me gusta:
Que no se pueda poner el clip para zurdos
Que no se pueda cerrar a una mano
