Not what was expected 8 x5 = 40 not 28. Haul water wastes my time.

Not what was expected 8 x5 = 40 not 28. Haul water wastes my time.
When searching for 5 gallon water jugs I clicked on these and it said several different sizes. I wanted 40 gallon size that was advertised. I got 8 cubes and they are 3.5 gallons NOT 5 GALLONS. Not happy AT ALL. It said 40 gallons.

I bought an 8-pack to supplement the 10 water bricks I already had. Both sets are equally outstanding products and the quality hasn't changed over the years. I took the time to remove any rough edges and sand the mouth of each brick and I had no problems with leaks. In fact, the original bricks (about 8 year old) have never leaked and I change the water twice a year.

One of the new bricks was missing a handle, but WaterBrick sent one to me quickly. Great customer service. I also bought the food bricks and they are a great complement to the water bricks.

Particularly impressed with the design and sturdy construction. These things are heavy duty enough that you could floor your truck bed with them and load your other gear on top. None of mine leaked but a few had mold flashing around the opening that I knocked off with fine sandpaper as a precaution before filling. I was initially looking for 5 gal. containers but after filling these 3.5 Gal. units and lugging them around by their well-made and sturdy handles, I recommend that anyone over the age of 50 stick with 3.5 gal.. When full, these weigh about 30 lbs. each. In a crisis situation it is better to have a higher container count than a strained back. Makes me wonder how I am going to deal with the 5 gal. soft, collapsible, poor handle units I already own. These are worth the extra money and not too expensive when bought in 8 or 10 unit packages.

Three months now and no leaks. I did take a great deal of care to make sure lids were on correctly, with the seal properly placed and seated (seals only go in one way). I took the advice of another reviewer and left the handles off. This made it easier to tightly close the lid, and it seemed to me while moving a filled container the seal was more likely to be undisturbed. Cleaning each of the containers with bleach water and letting dry before filling as recommended on their website did take a bit of time, especially trying to empty the rinse water. To completely empty I had to shake the container up and down a number of times. A messy job best done outside or over a large sink (one star deduction). I noticed the price went up by $6 to $175 right after purchasing in September. Available for less on Overstock as of this writing. I think there are better options out there for water storage, if you are strong enough to move them easily. I'm not, so I went with these. If you get these, I strongly recommend going to their website for detailed information on cleaning and seal placement.

Update: Six months and still no leaks.

These water containers are very useful for an emergency backup water supply. I stacked them upright, as I noted other reviewers said they might leak when stacked as suggested. They stack very well in the upright position and there is no leak potential from the cap. I build a small platform from wood to keep them off the bare floor. They stack very solidly in a corner of our utility room, completely out of the way but easy to get. While they are somewhat more expensive than some other solutions, they are very portable and easy to move. They are a great solution for anyone wanting to be prepared for a water emergency. They provide one of the critical necessities (fresh drinking water) in an emergency situation. These are a must have for anyone wanting to be prepared.

I bought these for non-drinking water storage and they appear sturdy, and stack quite well. I did read the reviews and saw/felt rough places on the openings of the plastic containers that had roughened two of the lid gaskets. I smoothed the rough areas, filled all eight containers with water, and have yet to have any leaks after stacking them. I'll try to update this review after a winter's storage in the non-heated garage to see how well they hold up in sub-freezing temperatures (yes I did leave space for expansion).

The seals leak and pop when tightening. Quality control was poor on my batch of 8. Out of 8... 7 leak. You would think the seal would be the number one function of quality control review. l. The threads are too small and when sealed if you give a gentle pull you can pop the lid open and water leaks everywhere. You are asking for water damage with that unreliability. Of course they work standing upright, but that is completely against the point.
I contacted the company immediately to report the problem and was met with voicemail and an email response. Now I have $150 in leaking water storage with an automated shrug and hand off to amazon to deal with.

Quote: " We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Unfortunately, this is an item which we team up with Amazon to provide you. It actually ships from their warehouse although we are the seller. For security purposes, we are unable to contact them on your behalf. Because of this, we have to forward you to Amazon customer service to take care of the issue. "

Buy these 1:1 in a prep store and inspect every seal. -- disappointed --
