I needed a sub load for day hikes when I didn't want to carry a backpack. I also didn't want a ton of stuff hanging off of my belt pulling my pants down while hiking.
I also usually carry my AR15 or my 870 in conjunction with a 1911 and needed to build an affordable sub load system around that.
I ordered a surplus 1980s H harness with belt and canteen on Amazon for $15.
With 2 of these Molle pouches, the belt easily fits the canteen, my machete, and a double stack AR magazine pouch.
I keep some CLP, gun oil, a boresnake, compass, maps, and misc. in one pouch. Then dedicate the other to granola bars, my phone, camera, and other misc. stuff. My IFAK piggybacks off of one of these Molle pouches as well and I have a cheap, lightweight sub load that fit my needs very well!
I also have the medic pack that serves a better purpose but had this so it forces me to pack light and smart. However, the medic pack is not that much bigger and is better because of its clamshell opening and organizational pockets and straps inside and out. I would opt out for the medic pack, its a couple more bucks for much more convenience. I like both though.
What I did not like is the color. This has a green tinge on top of a light tan.
This pouch is probably just fine for a outdoors-man or John Doe doing recreational activities, but if your Military/LEO, buy a name brand you know and trust.... your gear is your life! It can literally be the difference between life and death for us. I do NOT trust this pouch with my dog's leash much less my life or my fellow officers lives.
First, out of 4 of these that I purchased, two of them had poorly installed buttons on the MOLLE straps. I had to get my own buttons and completely replace/repunch the buttons onto the straps.
Second, the zippers are very low quality and are continually separating behind the leader, meaning that the pouches "open up" at unexpected times. This happens even when the pouches are empty, so I cannot imagine risking putting in the weight of 50 or 100 9mm cartridges.
Even though the size is right, I must suggest finding another MOLLE pouch.
