Very satisfied with storage space. Quality is slightly questionable.

Very satisfied with storage space. Quality is slightly questionable.
Bought for use as a 72-hour bug-out pack. In other words, this pack will likely see no significant use for (hopefully) a long time. Excuse me while I knock on wood. I state that outright because I will be evaluating this pack with regard to the way I am using it - as a container for emergency/survival supplies, and not as a camping or everyday-use pack. My goal was to put as much as possible inside the pack, since to effectively fill its role as a grab-and-go bug-out bag it should not have a ridiculous number of things swinging around on the outside, and anything that must be outside should be strapped down tightly. I wanted a pack that was still backpack-sized but could hold all my emergency/survival essentials (if I really wanted to prep for 72 hours of survival in comfort, I'd have bought something like a 75L trekking pack). In this capacity as a storage pack, I am extremely satisfied. In the main pack alone, I have managed to fit a 66"x90" wool blanket, six MREs, a pair of Merrell Moab Ventilators (size 10.5), a minimal change of clothes (a pair of ACU trousers, a t-shirt, and two pairs of thick socks), an 8'x10' tarp, and 7L of water (2.5L in the hydration bladder, two 2L Platy bottles, and a 0.5L Arrowhead bottle). I have two more Arrowhead bottles (for a total of 8L of water) and various additional odds and ends (red and green chemlights, a compass, a solar/handcrank-powered radio/flashlight, bug spray, 50' of paracord, etc. etc.) in the included MOLLE pouches or strapped to the outside of the pack. There is a decent amount of PALS space on the sides, enough to put extra MOLLE pouches if you have them - I threw an IFAK (first aid kit) on there as well. If I haven't beaten my point to death yet, this thing is impressively capable as far as storage space goes. I've attached a few images showing just how packed this thing is. My only worry is the quality. If a backpack has cinching straps, I'm going to use them - and frankly, the cinching straps on this pack make me a little nervous. The straps appear sturdy enough, with solid buckles and decent stitching where the straps meet the buckles, but after tightening and re-tightening them a few times (I had to re-pack the pack several times) they seem as if they are starting to pull away ever so slightly from the body of the pack, exposing the threads that connect them to the pack (see image). I've compensated by refraining from tightening the cinch straps as tightly as I would normally (which I can deal with - with a pack as full as mine, the cinch straps don't make much of a difference anyways), but it does make me worry a bit about the long-term durability of this pack. There are a few other little quirks: - Most of the straps aren't folded at the end of the strap, so if you loosen them too much they simply pop out of the buckle (see image). Not a major problem, but a minor nuisance. - The two MOLLE side pouches do not use the conventional snap-button straps for attachment; instead, they use straps that are lined with Velcro, with complementary Velcro on the back of the pouch. The straps themselves are not very reinforced, making it a bit difficult to thread them through the webbing. The pouches are less securely attached than real MOLLE gear as a result, especially if your pack and/or your pouch is/are fully loaded, as this may distend the fabric and affect the degree of contact between the two Velcro sides. Overall, I am very impressed with the storage capacity. I had, for example, originally planned to roll the wool blanket and tarp together and strap them to the outside of my pack, as one might do with a tent while backpacking. Turns out I had enough space to fit both inside the main compartment. My one major concern is with the quality of the cinch straps, which do not seem like they would be able to do their job well should this pack see consistent use for a long period of time.

I was in the market for a good Bug-Out-Bag and after perusing all the options available on Amazon I decided to give this one a try. It looked to have the best size to price ratio as well as a few features that were not offered on most of the other bags. First off I have to say this is one big bag, but I feel the more you can carry in a bug-out situation the better off you are going to be. By that logic a bag is never really going to be big enough but this one comes close especially keeping in mind that I'm 60+ years old and honestly can't carry as much as I could when I was 40 or 20. My only fault with this bag is the zipper pulls, or more precisely their attachment points to the zipper. There is a very slight gap on the side of the zipper on the side that gets the pressure when you unzip and that slight gap has caused the pull to detach itself a couple of times. No big deal really and I have numerous work-arounds in mind. It is something I would like to see addressed though as this makes an otherwise great zipper just a touch annoying. The second thing I would like to comment on is the detachable "Fanny pack" at the bottom is attached with snaps rather than Velcro. They are difficult to snap once the pack is full. Velcro would have been a better option IMHO. As for the comfort this pack is adjustable 6 ways from Sunday and should accommodate just about every body type. I ended up removing the waist belt because I am abnormally long from the waist to the shoulders and it would only attach around my stomach which wasn't really comfortable. Other than that there is a plethora of attachment points and tie downs to allow you to strap on sleeping bags and other items that would otherwise be eating up room inside the pack. The hydration system looks to be of good quality with adequate water storage to see you through most conditions without worrying about thirst and frees you from having to carry bottles or canteens. To give you an idea of the size of this pack there is a Gerber Kukri strapped onto the side and that puppy is 22" lomg. The outside dimensions of the bag, fully loaded sans sleeping bag and the two external side packs is 20"H x 12"W x 12"D

This is a great pack, it is very roomy. I actually fit all of my bow hunting gear in just the fanny pack alone. Shawn was great, and not only made sure I received my pack in satisfactory condition, but also is sending me replacement buckles and straps, as mine did slip a little. The hydration bladder did not leak in mine, but Shawn double checked to make sure I was 100% satisfied. Could not say more about the customer service. Order with confidence from these guys, because if for whatever reason you are the slightest bit unhappy, they will fix you right up. I wanted a pack I could use for hunting, camping, a bug out bag, and adventures in the woods with my kids. This pack fits the bill for all of these tasks. The hydration bladder adds a bit of convenience by not having to lug around so many water bottles. My daughter actually commented how cool my fanny pack was after I had all my hunting gear on it, which includes: binoculars, 3 knives, 2 flashlights, hot hands, small size peanut butter jar and two packs of crackers, a field dressing kit, extra pistol magazine, scent control spray, and also enough room to squeeze in two water bottles.
I could not say more about this pack or company. I searched around forever for a bag I could use in the above mentioned ways, and could not happier with my purchase. This bag is so customizable at first I was afraid to tweak it too much because I didn't want to mess it up, but I soon jus started attaching and taking things apart, and it is simple once you figure out where everything can go. I will definitely take this thing everywhere I go, I could use it for vacation, all the way to a hunting trip or building a fort in the woods with my kids haha. I have shopped a lot on EBay and Amazon and have never found a seller more interested in customer satisfaction, rather than just a profit until I ordered from Monkey Packs. You will not be disappointed with this pack, and if for some reason you are, Monkey Packs will take care of your issues promptly. Thanks Again Guys.
