OVS XD Nomadic Awning Opens in About 30 Seconds

The short version: Overland Vehicle Systems' XD Nomadic is a 90-degree, vehicle-mounted awning that uses gas struts to open or stow in about 30 seconds, with blackout fabric and built-in LED lights.

If your vehicle doubles as a mobile basecamp, fast shade is worth having. Conventional awnings mean unfolding several arms and placing poles by hand; the XD Nomadic's nitrogen gas-charged struts handle most of that, which OVS says gets setup or pack-up down to around half a minute.

The canopy is a 320g ripstop poly/cotton fabric with a blackout undercoat meant to cut light and heat underneath, plus a 5000PU waterproof coating. Built-in white and amber LEDs with a dimmer keep the space usable after dark without hanging a separate lantern.

It covers one side of the vehicle rather than wrapping around like a 270-degree unit, and it mounts on either the driver or passenger side. At 46.5 to 54.3 lbs, check your roof rack's capacity, especially if it already carries a rooftop tent or recovery gear.
